The Big House on the Hill | Tremarnock Summer | Book Blog Tour

Good morning guys, I’m sure you’ve realised, but there’s three blog posts going up today, so be sure to check them all out! Two are part of a blog tour!

Today I’m taking part in the Book Blog Tour for Tremarnock Summer by Emma Burstall.

Brand new from the bestselling author of Tremarnock and The Cornish Guest House.

Bramble Challoner has had a very normal upbringing. She lives in a semi in the suburbs of London with her parents and works at the call centre down the road. She still goes out with the boy she met at school. At weekends they stay in and watch films on the telly and sometimes hold hands. Bramble is dying for an adventure.

So when her very grand grandfather, Lord Penrose, dies, leaving his huge, rambling house in Cornwall to her, Bramble packs her bags immediately, dragging along her best friend Katie. The sleepy village of Tremarnock had better be ready for its newest residents…

This is a beautiful looking book, the cover is wonderful! It’s got that watercolour sort of look and upon reading the book, I realise that it could link to one of the characters, a painter.

The house is wonderfully described, as is the countryside, and it makes me yearn to return to the coastal towns of the south.

The story itself is wonderfully written, it reminds me of many of us, being in a ‘dead-end job’ and finding a way out. Obviously, we’re not all in that position, but it’s something some of us may find ourselves in, and we get to see how and what Bramble does with her sliver of light.

Against all odds and throughout the story, Bramble finds a way to make it work. After a awful experience, with a guy, who I never really liked anyways – sorry! She still finds a way to bring the old house into the 21st Century, proving everyone wrong, including herself – yay!

I’d recommend this book to those that dream of summer, a perfect summer read! Although this is part of a series, you can read this book without having read those – it may leave you dreaming of a summer getaway, of beaches, or of just the sea!

Be sure to follow along with the rest of the book blog tour in the next few days and check out all the other blogs on the tour.
