Continuing on with our Graphic Novels month, may I introduce you to the Lumberjanes. A kick-ass girl gang who gets into all sorts of mischief at their summer camp. Be prepared for fits of laughter and a book you won’t ever want to put down.
At Miss Qiunzilla Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s camp for hard-core lady-types, things are not what they seem. Three-eyed foxes. Secret caves. Anagrams. Luckily, Jo, April, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are five rad, butt-kicking best pals determined to have an awesome summer together… And they’re not gonna let a magical quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way! The mystery keeps getting bigger, and it all begins here.

What instantly drew me to this graphic novel was the illustrations. I’d heard of Noelle through Tumblr (old school huh?) and loved her drawings. What’s different about Lumberjanes is the difference in drawings throughout the book, as the pages turn and we’re thrust further into this mind-boggling adventure, the images change before our very eyes.
I also liked the concept. It’s very much ‘girl-power’ and it includes diverse characters and LGBT and generally just ticks all the boxes.
The adventure is wacky and the title (beware the kitten holy) is the kind of title that will stick in your mind as you browse the shelves thinking ‘what’s that all about?’ The characters are mad and loud and rather outrageous, but that’s what makes them so lovable.
It’s a fab and light-hearted read for when the world is just a little too much or when you’ve hit a reading slump so low that only a cheerful, bright and colourful read will bring you out of it.
As always, let me know in the comments below if you’ve read the book and what you thought of it. And if you haven’t, will you be adding it to your TBR pile?
