The Never Ending Story | The Colorado Kid | Review

My last review of November for a novella which had been on my TBR for a while. I’d been recommended Stephen King for a while and I hadn’t quite got round to reading any of his books until this year. I read Sleeping Beauties earlier this year and just recently read his novella, The Colorado Kid and it wasn’t what I was expecting.

Blurb

On an island off the coast of Maine, a man is found dead. There’s no identification on the body. Only the dogged work of a pair of local newspapermen and a graduate student in forensics turns up any clues.

But that’s just the beginning of the mystery. Because the more they learn about the man and the baffling circumstances of his death, the less they understand. Was it an impossible crime? Or something stranger still…?

No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett’s The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world’s great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself…

Star Rating – 4 Stars

Many thanks to Titan for sending me this to review.

I picked this up because I rather like crime fiction books, I seem to flit between crime fiction reads and fantasy reads, something which Stephen King writes both of. I also loved the fact that it was a short read I could pick up on my lunch break.

This edition also came with some rather fab illustrations to go along with the story. All done by different illustrators and all fabulous in their own way!

I found this a really easy read. I loved the way the story flowed and how we jumped from modern day to when the mystery was in full swing. The characters were fab and the writing was fab. The only thing was I couldn’t quite get my head round the ending. Anyone else?

And with that, I shan’t say no more and leave you to read it yourself and come up with your own conclusion. Much like the book implies.

As always, let me know in the comments below if you’ve read the book and what you thought of it. And if you haven’t, will you be adding it to your TBR pile?
